How To Wire A Third Brake Light Truck Cap Chevy Silverado

I have a 07 silverado lt1. Tapping into your trailer wiring or a tail light definitely isnt the right way to wire a 3rd brake light wire.

How do i connect the wiring for the third brake light on a cap i just installed on my 1998 chevy c1500 pickup.

How to wire a third brake light truck cap chevy silverado. Run the red wire from the shell through the bed and to the brake wire in the wiring harness. If you trace the loom back just a bit you will find a light blue wire that is used for the 3rd brake light for your truck cap. If you will take a look at the wiring harness up above the spare tire you should find the connector that the 7 way plugs into.

The black wire is most likely the ground but you could test it by applying 12 volts to the blue wire and grounding the black one. Worst case im going to bring a new wire from the trucks 3rd brake light all the way to the back and hook up the shell light to that so that it doesnt blink when i turn the turn signal on. Place the blue scotchlok connector on the brake wire and the red wire then clamp it down with a pair of pliers.

Find a black wire in the wiring harness and repeat the process in step 3 with the black wire from the shell. One of the wires would be power the other ground. Worked great when i drove it off the lotwent back after a month and they installed an updated version of diode with ground attachement.
